Fake tan is a safer and anti-aging alternative to UV tanning. People with sensitive skin or who find it hard to tan naturally will also find it more effective. You can DIY with fake tan but having a spray tan means you get professional results, with great coverage on those hard to reach areas and the most natural finish.
No, absolutely not! Orangeness is the result of older tanning agents, or the wrong shade for your skin tone. A professional spray tan with modern tanning agents and a pre-tan consultation avoids this. Streakiness is caused by improper application of home tanning creams and sprays – a spray tan uses a fine mist to cover evenly and having someone else apply it allows hard to reach areas to be covered. Exfoliation and skin prepping is also important to prevent build up in certain areas (see pre/post care page).
I use a range of tanning solutions ranging from the most natural looking sun-kissed tan of 8% DHA right up to 12% plus booster drops for a deep bronzed glamour/showgirl tan! So I always do a quick consultation to carefully assess your skin type to ensure the best shade is given to suit your individual skin tone and requirements. I would not recommend anything above 8% DHA to very fair people who burn easily; although my solutions have olive undertones, this insures you won’t look orange, it just wouldn’t look natural.
Once the tanning tent is set up I will leave you to get undressed in private. Don’t worry if you are self-conscious, free to wear whatever you feel comfortable in; an old pair of your own knickers, bikini, old bra with the straps pulled down etc. But equally feel free to go topless and down to a skinny thong or less if you want a more complete tan with less strap lines. For men I would suggest dark swim trunks or boxers.
Once you’re ready I will apply some barrier cream to the palms of the hands, finger nails, soles of feet, toe nails and a small mount on the knees and elbows to prevent any build up in these areas. Then using a HVLP spray tan machine, I will apply a fine mist of tanning solution to your body. This takes no more than 10 minutes. After your spray tan, the palms of your hands/feet, fingers and toenails are wiped clean of any overspray.
No. I will set up a spray tan tent in your home. I use a HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) machine to apply the tan; this produces a very fine precise spray and any overspray is caught in the tent. There is a faint fresh smell and that is all.
Once the tan is applied I will use the warm air from the hose to insure the tan sets nicely. After about 1 minute your ready to go! I just advise you to wear dark loose clothing after the treatment, and don’t get wet!
Gorgeous as you’ll feel, the spray tan underneath this colour will develop over the next 8 hours or overnight. The immediate “result” you see is just the cosmetic colour guide so don’t worry if you think you’ll smudge it with your clothes, shoes or bag; once it’s had a short while to penetrate the end result will be perfectly even. This top coat may start to look a little bit grubby in patches, but don’t worry as long as it’s been left on long enough to develop, as soon as its washed off your flawless, enviable tan underneath will be revealed for all to admire!
Your body constantly sheds dead skin cells. This is why natural sun tans fade over a few days. Spray tanning only affects the outer skin layer, so as your skin cells naturally shed, the spray tan will fade. Your tan should last 5-10 days, typically 7 days, but longer if you exfoliate well first and then maintain it well by moisturising every day (read our prep & aftercare information).
Yes! DHA based Sunless tanning has been recommended by the Skin Cancer Organization, American Academy of Dermatology, Canadian Dermatology Association, The American Cancer Society and the American Medical Association. DHA is derived from glycerine (vegetable origin), which is a commonly used cosmetic and food ingredient. DHA is not absorbed into the blood stream and poses no possibility of toxicity. My products are use certified organic DHA, ask for Vani-T.
No! Spray Tans do not provide any sunscreen protection, so even if you look brown your skin underneath with still burn if it’s prone to doing so, so apply sunscreen and this moisture will be an added benefit to the tan!
The colour produced by a tan does not wash off; it simply fades as the upper layers of the epidermis wear away. You can try to speed the exfoliation process by gently scrubbing the skin with a washcloth or loofah in a warm bath. DO NOT OVER SCRUB! Otherwise using baby oil mixed in with exfoliating will speed up removal.
Spray tanning may not be suitable for people with respiratory problems or in their first three months of pregnancy.
